Student Community
In the student area you will find activities, courses and workshops related to Spanish and Catalan language and culture (as a foreign language, second language and heritage language). They can be taken independently or complement the Spanish and/or Catalan classes offered by the school in the specific language and culture courses for families moving to Barcelona (kids, teens and adults, the whole family).
Mamas and babies (conversation meeting)
From October (Autumn term, Spring and Summer term. Academic year 2025-26)
Students: Mamas with babies and toddlers (0-3 years).
Mode: In person (08005, Poblenou).
Language: Spanish and Catalan.
Duration: 50 minutes once a week.
Date and time: Saturdays, 10 am.
Price: €10 (individual session).

Conversation meetings are an ideal opportunity to practice your Spanish or Catalan with other students but this is an atypical conversation group. It is designed more as a space to share and care for each other among mums who want to practice their Spanish or Catalan. So, it is a bilingual activity, without a specific level (although it is advisable to have at least a B1), face-to-face with a maximum of 8 mums and their babies. Each session begins with a proposal from the teacher with a theme related to motherhood and parenting. The conversation is created by all mums. At the end of the session, we review some of the most important grammatical and vocabulary aspects of the session, clarify any last doubts and/or modify any mistakes made during the session. The focus is on interaction, fluency and sociolinguistic competence. But above all, we focus on ourselves and our babies.
On rainy days we will meet at the school house (08005). On non-rainy days we will meet at Playa Mar Bella (Poblenou).
Pedra, paper, tisores
From October (Autumn term 2025)
Students: Kids (3 -6 years, accompanied by a parent).
Mode: In person (08005, Poblenou).
Language: Catalan.
Duration: 50 minutes once per week.

A family activity where the protagonist is play. Through stories, songs, drawings, dances, theatre... and many, many traditional games, the ones we have played all our lives. For parents whose mother tongue is neither Catalan it can be a great opportunity to practice your knowledge Catalan with your children and other parents.
Important (very important): Come with a desire to play!
*Activity aimed at children from 3 to 6 years old. Younger siblings are more than welcome :)
Saleta literària Salita literaria: (reading, writing and creativity club with a gender perspective)

Duration: 1 hour and half per month.
Date and time: Saturdays, 11.30 am. The second or third weekend of each month.

Reading, writing and creativity club with a gender perspective for young readers (aged 6-9). Once a month, we will meet to work on texts and educational activities in Catalan or Spanish.
These great figures from our history are used as a pretext for developing linguistic, pragmatic, sociocultural and cross-curricular skills; critical thinking; and creativity and imagination. Each topic gives way to an educational task designed by Mama back to school, consisting of reading comprehension activities, written expression, grammar maps, crafts and other creative tasks, games and songs to practise the language in context. The educational tasks are based on the teaching cards from the Pequeña & GRANDE/ Petita & GRAN collection, published by Alba in Barcelona, and on the magazine Pantera.

Salón literario: Madres e hijas (reading, writing and creativity club with a gender perspective)

Students: adults with level B2 or higher and also native speakers.

Duration: 1 hour and half every two months.
Day and time: Saturdays, 5 pm- 6.30 pm

This club is open to Spanish students at level B2 or above, as well as native speakers. Every two months, we will meet to discuss texts by 20th-century Spanish writers related to the mother-daughter duo. I discovered, studied and worked on some of these texts during my time at university, especially in the Literature and Feminism course. Others were discovered in different theatre training courses: Theatre of the Oppressed and Dance Theatre. Especially in the latter, where we carried out an artistic project on memory and gender for three years at the Barceloneta Civic Centre (Barcelona). And many, most of these writers, during my years of research, while writing my doctoral thesis on the presence of Lorca's theatre in contemporary Spanish playwrights.
You don't need previous knowledge of anything to participate. If you have knowledge, you're very welcome; if you don't, you're very welcome. This is a place for everyone. To share, listen and rethink.

Once a term the school offers workshops about Barcelona for students with a B1 level or above. The workshops are designed for two types of students:
The less touristy Barcelona, the best places for children in the city, Barcelona's neighbourhoods, university life in Barcelona, the city's main festivals… the list is infinite.
The second type are students who want to continue learning with a specific study related to literature, art or film related to the city.
Can you imagine continuing to learn and practice Spanish through a personal interest? If you can, then these workshops are definitely for you.
These workshops are for you if you want to practice your Spanish; improve your oral comprehension and expression; and you love learning new expressions and vocabulary and are interested in Barcelona's culture.
